COVID-19 – Coronavirus

We will be suspending bookings for our Annex and recording in the studio until the Scottish and UK Governments advise us that their exceptional measures to address the Coronavirus outbreak are lifted. In addition, we urge people to consider travel to Jura very carefully in the months to come. With very particular conditions here, affecting our food and supply chain, transport and emergency health cover, our Community Council and other local organisation are working hard to safeguard our community and vital, year round services and infrastructure.

We recently completed work on refurbishing the annex of the old school here at Knockrome, with a handmade kitchen and a floor upcycled from Jura Whisky casks. We created self contained accommodation for one or two people – a twin or double room that can also accommodate a travel cot with a shower/wet room, and small meat-free kitchen area for preparing and eating breakfast and light meals. As well being there to give visiting musicians a place to retire to at the end of a day in the studio, we are also really pleased to be able to offer this to island visitors no matter what their interest.

The studio is housed in the old school at Knockrome, lying above Lowlandmans Bay, about 5 miles up the road from Craighouse. A kilometre off the public road at Knockrome. Sound of Jura’s ‘annex’ offers a totally secluded spot from which to enjoy the many flora and fauna of Jura, some delightful walking, running and cycling routes as well as the strands and sea at Corran, and Lowlandmans Bay.

The ‘annex’ guest accommodation is available year round and prices start at £50 per night, with muesli, fruit, bread, coffee and tea provided for your breakfast.

Please email us to book or find out about availability.

The ‘annex’ offers guests a compact kitchen and dining area, with kettle, toaster, fridge, induction hobs and microwave, while the bedroom seen here set up as a double, can also be configured as a twin, according to need.

Finally, just a few things to note

  • The Annex keeps a vegetarian kitchen
  • The house is 1km off the tarmac road on a rough track – that’s solitude for you!
  • As it comes up from time to time, we don’t accommodate dogs or other pets.
